Italian language requisites

As the vast majority of the classes in the Degree Course is taught in Italian, the student must possess a minimum level of language-proficiency rated B2.

The test of Italian language knowledge for the admission is the same for all degree courses and will take place at the location and with the examination procedures here displayed from time to time: language test (ITA).


The candidates unable to pass the Italian language test won't be allowed to take the admission tests for the restricted access study programmes nor to enrol in the unrestricted access courses such as the one in Communication Theories.

A) Students enrolled within the available places’ threshold (in restricted access courses) are exempted from the Italian proficiency test if they satisfy the following conditions:

  • they submitted the pre-enrolment application to enrol in a course of study whose teaching is offered in English;
  • they hold an Italian language proficiency certification, at a grade no lower than the B2 level according to the Council of Europe, issued as part of the CLIQ quality system (Italian Quality Language Certification), which brings together the current certification bodies (University for foreigners from Perugia, Siena University for Foreigners, Roma Tre University, "Dante Alighieri" Society and the University for Foreigners "Dante Alighieri" of Reggio Calabria, also in agreement with the Italian Cultural Institutes abroad or other institutions. These certifications can be obtained in the country of residence, in affiliated examination centres located throughout the world.

B) Students with the following qualifications are exempt from the Italian language proficiency test and enrolled outside the available places (extra contingent):

  • a secondary school diploma of four-year or five-year duration obtained in Italian state and equal-level schools abroad;
    • one of the final secondary school qualifications listed in the Ministerial Provisions (see the Ministerial Provisions on the Studiare in Italia website, attachment 2 (pdf);
  • a complementary certificate to the final title of middle school obtained in Argentina, which certifies the attendance of a course of study including the teaching, for at least 5 years, of the Italian language (Law n. 210 of 7 June 1999, Official Journal No. 152 of 1 July 1999);
  • the Italian language and culture diploma awarded by the Universities for Foreigners of Perugia and Siena; an Italian language proficiency certification, corresponding to levels C1 and C2 of the Council of Europe, issued as part of the CLIQ quality system (Italian Quality Language Certification), which brings together the current certification bodies (University for foreigners from Perugia, Siena University for Foreigners, Roma Tre University, "Dante Alighieri" Society and the University for Foreigners "Dante Alighieri" of Reggio Calabria, also in agreement with the Italian Cultural Institutes abroad or other institutions;
  • an undergraduate (laurea triennale) academic qualification obtained in an Italian university.
